Gem opened the door to her house and put her bookbag on the rack and went into the Kitchen, where she heard her brother banging his drums like crazy.

After two years of her brother practicing the drums, she had gotten used to the tapping and banging afternoon. (and though she would never admit it, she felt the house was empty and too quiet in the afternoons he was at a friends house and not waking up the neighbor’s cat with his loud drummer practicing.)

“What’d up bozo?” I said to him before opening my folder and pulling out my homework.

“My band’s about to have a concert and it’s going to be big. Or at least it might be big since Freddy told everyone it’s going to be big.”

Gem rolled her eyes. When her brother started talking band, she either didn’t understand or didn’t want to understand.

“While going to the right page in her school books, she thought about what her brother had just said. “Wait, that concert is free?”

Gems brother, baffled that she cared, slowly nodded. “Yeah, mom’s gonna bring snacks and stuff.”

Gem saw this moment as an opportunity. “How about we add an admission fee?” her brother frowned. “This will be good Keeth I prom- Keeth!? KEETH!” Keeth had stared to play his drums rather loudly after heating the first part of his sisters plan. Finally he stopped when Gem started to yell at the top of her lungs.

“HERE ME OUT! Keeth, jeez. What if we made people pay for entry and snacks, with 90% of the proceeds going to a fundraising of some sort?”

“No way! I knew if i told you about my concert you would make it about yourself!”

Gem got desperate. Com’on Keeth! You’ll be helping out a fundraiser!” Gem pleaded. She would have her report in no time if he complied.

He started his drums for a moment. Then he spoke. “So you said 90% going to some fundraiser? And the other ten percent is going to…?” he started.

Gem huffed, “me. The ten percent is going to me. You knew that already, so what’s your point?

Keeth smiled. “Better make that 80% going to the fundraiser. I want a piece of that pie too.”

Gem sighed. “Why must you always get in the way of my brilliance!?”

“What brilliance?” their mother walked in the kitchen.

“Gem wants to ruin my concert with her money-based greed.” Keeth through Gem under the bus.

“Wait!?” Gem said wanting to hurt Keeth. “Let me explain”
